His Worship Patrick Brown, Mayor of City of Brampton, led a delegation on a Trade & Cultural Mission to Nigeria from February 10 – 13, 2020. The purpose of the visit, is to build a stronger bi-lateral Trade & Cultural investment opportunities between Brampton and Nigeria.

In November 2019, a delegation from the City of Brampton attended and participated at NCIS 2019, showcasing Brampton as a city in Canada ready to do business with Nigeria.

According to Mayor Brown “The City of Brampton shares a unique bond with Nigeria in its greatest resource, its people. The Nigerian Canadian diaspora in our city has played a vital role in the growth and development of our community, opening doors to new and exciting opportunities. Nigeria is Canada’s 31st ranked trading partner, 0.1% of FDI stock in 2017 and is the top country for Immigrants from Africa for Brampton, giving the city the second largest group of Nigerians in Canada and making it a seamless transition for many new Nigerian Canadians. We would welcome the opportunity and learn more first hand how to build a bridge with the City of Brampton and its strong diaspora”.

MAYOR’S VISIT WITH LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR

On February 11, 2020, Mayor Patrick Brown visited the Governor of Lagos State, H.E. Babjide Sanwo-Olu. The Deputy High Commissioner of the Canada Deputy High Commission, Mr. Ryan Ward was also in attendance.

The meeting was collaborative, both the Mayor and Governor discussed opportunities for forging essential partnerships that will benefit both the City of Brampton and Lagos State.

Lagos State discussed the need for improvement in Cyber Security. The City of Brampton currently has best in class standards on Cyber Security and will work with Lagos State to supports its efforts in improvement. NCTIG will work to support the collaboration and business partnership.

MAYOR VISITS HIS MAJESTY OONI OF IFE

On February 11, 2020, the Mayor visited His Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. The visit was to share and exchange cultures between Brampton and Ife. The Ooni spent time last summer in Brampton where he visited the Mayor. His Majesty intends to hold an art exhibit in Brampton next year.

MAYOR VISITS TERRA KULTURE

The Mayor and his delegates visited Terra Kulture Arena to visit Nigeria’s cultural center on February 12, 2020. Alongside Bolanle Austen-Peters, an Arts Connoisseur, they spoke to stakeholders in the Nollywood film industry and opportunities to expand production into Brampton.

Q & A SESSIONS WITH MAYOR

On February 12 & 13 respectively, the Mayor and his team met with business executives as well as young Nigerian entrepreneurs to discuss the opportunities of doing business and investing in Brampton. Attendees were able to ask the Mayor & his team questions and get immediate feedback.
